The University of San Carlos is a Catholic Institution of learning that embodies the principles of academic discipline of San Carlos Borromeo and the missionary charism of the Soceity of the Divine Word (SVD).

We aim to develop competent and socially responsible professionals and life-long learners in an environment that fosters excellence in the academic core processes of teaching-learning, research, and community extension service.

Our mission is to provide timely, relevant and transformative academic programs responsive to the needs of the local, national and global committee in a rapid changing world.

Department Objectives

         

I. Introduction

  1. For the Basic Courses: To provide the students the knowledge of the basic principles in chemistry and the applications of these principles to man and society.
  2. To instill in the students a consciousness of the Divine presence in the order and the system of the world of chemistry.
  3. To help develop in the students Christian moral values such as honesty and professional integrity in the practice of and a social consciousness in the use of chemical technology for the economic upliftment of the Filipino people.
  4. To actively pursue faculty developments, retention and welfare in order to reach and maintain a high standard of teaching in the university level.
Goals
  1. To update/revise curricular programs to made them more relevant to Philippine needs.
  2. To emphasize in our courses the responsibility that the chemist has in the preservation of the environment.
  3. To update faculty and students in the current advancement in chemistry and chemistry teaching.
  4. To acquire the laboratory facilities required so that the students could have "hands-on" activities geared towards the development of practical skills needed in the field.
  5. To emphasize in our courses the interrelationship between chemistry and other disciplines.

II. Research

Research will develop from basic chemical knowledge to improve and/or create new techniques and substances of importance to the academic community, industrial sector, and to the country as a whole. Research activities will be geared toward the pursuit of the following areas:

  • Basic/Applied Research
  • Pure Applied Research
  • Pure Basic Research
 

Goals

  1. To develop research capabilities of the department in selected areas of interest.
  2. To build up research facilities in terms of available space and equipment to meet present and future research demands.
  3. To develop skills in writing research publications.
  4. To develop analytical services laboratory to cater to the needs of research and industry in collaboration with the USC Water Laboratory.
       

III. Community Extension

  1. To develop its members (students, faculty and non-teaching staff) sensitivity to relevant issues and problems existing in the community.
  2. To identify areas of concern or problems where it will extend its resources (knowledge, skills, equipment, etc.)
  3. To draw out from its members a commitment to serve the community especially those who are less privileged.
